Your donation to the Strathcona Community Centre helps support community programs
The Strathcona neighbourhood is vibrant, supportive and close‐knit. However, many of the families serviced by the Strathcona Community Centre experience the social and human realities of urban poverty that is commonplace in Vancouver’s Downtown East Side. A recently released Early Years Development Instrument report, children in the Strathcona neighbourhood showed the highest level of vulnerability on the physical health and wellbeing scale among all of the neighbourhoods in Vancouver (Human Early Learning Partnership, 2016).
To respond to this need, the Strathcona Community Centre has been a leader in weaving food security and childcare initiatives into a framework of community recreation. Over the years, food supports such as the Breakfast Program and the Backpack Program, amongst many others, have developed to ensure that community members have nourishment for full participation in recreation activities and in their broader lives. Care and education are provided to children through childcare programs including preschool and Out of School Care.
To sustain these programs, the centre relies heavily on generous donations from our donors and funders. The Strathcona Community Centre Association accepts donations online through Canada Helps. Thank you to all those who have donated already.
